Film directors used to be quite restricted to that medium
If you look at directors during the 60s, Lewis Gilbert and Robert Stevenson for example, they only directed films.
One of the facets of modern convergence, is the lowering of the strict boundaries between the media industries (look at entry in 4th edition of the Media Students Book).
Enda Walsh is a great example of this, as he started out as a theatre writer but has since gone on to write for film, television and radio (including translating his own work), as well as designing for art rooms. His multiple contributions to the media and creative industries include this quite unique quirk:

ORIGINS
Born in New Zealand to Australian parents (father was Czechoslovakian refugee), moved around a lot as a child like e.g. Sweden and the Philippines, before moving to England at the age of 11.
Worked on comedy TV shows such as Not The Nine O'Clock News, Blackadder and The Vicar Of Dibley.
WORKING TITLE
First affiliation came with their fourth production, The Tall Guy, a romantic comedy.

"A fleet of police motorcycles escorted the British stars of new movie Hot Fuzz to the film’s premiere in London.Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, who rose to fame in cult TV series Spaced and the film Shaun of the Dead, were joined in Leicester Square by director Edgar Wright, who co-wrote the film with Pegg. Fellow cast members Timothy Dalton, Paddy Considine and Edward Woodward also attended.In the film, London’s finest police officer Nicholas Angel (played by Pegg) is sent to a sleepy English village, where he is partnered with oafish Danny Butterman (Frost).
